Robotic Simple Nephrectomy
People sometimes loose function in one of their kidneys due to infection or kidney blockages. If the damage is irreversible a simple nephrectomy may be offered as a treatment for the condition.
This
procedure consists of the removal of the kidney and a small part of the
ureter. The Davinci robot can be used to perform this operation through
small incisions. The kidneys can often be morcellated so the tissue
can be removed through very small incisions.
Robotic Nephrectomy can be performed through the front (transperitoneal) or side (retroperitoneal) depending on your condition.
Routine laparoscopy and hand assist laparoscopy are other options in the treatment of these conditions.
